UGANDA'S STORY SHINES AT #HIDDENUGANDA MOVIE PREMIERE WITH PETER S. GREENBERG.

Updated: 3 days ago

Kampala, Uganda, April 4th, 2025 — In celebration of Uganda’s natural beauty and cultural wealth, the highly anticipated #HiddenUganda movie premiere transformed into an unforgettable evening of pride and promise. Graced by President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni, the premiere attracted dignitaries, conservationists, tourism stakeholders, and international media to witness the unveiling of a remarkable cinematic masterpiece.

Produced by renowned CBS News Travel Editor Peter S. Greenberg, Hidden Uganda is a strategic love letter to the Pearl of Africa. The film takes viewers through Uganda’s diverse landscapes, from the bustling streets of downtown Kampala to the tranquil, coffee-scented slopes of Mt. Elgon. Audiences are immersed in authentic Ugandan experiences, including the warm laughter of market vendors, the rustic charm of an Ankole Longhorn herdsman’s homestead, and the roar of the mighty River Nile during exhilarating white-water rafting adventures.

The film also takes a heartwarming turn, walking with Uganda’s celebrated Gold medalist Joshua Cheptegei through his hometown of Kapchorwa, and offers rare encounters with the country’s most treasured wildlife — from the mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to the playful chimpanzees of Ngamba Island Sanctuary.

“A country of all rhythms, of art and colour,” Greenberg declared, visibly moved as he paused to absorb the moment. "What an extraordinary experience," he added, acknowledging the profound impact of Uganda’s story on the international stage.

Already making waves across the United States of America (USA), Hidden Uganda is poised to become an influential ambassador for the country’s tourism, conservation, and cultural legacy.

Speaking during the screening, His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni emphasized Uganda’s rich history, preserved culture, and unique wildlife, calling the Ankole cow a “gold mine” for healthy beef.

The President pledged continued government support for such transformative initiatives. He lauded the relentless efforts of the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Uganda Wildlife Authority, UNDP Uganda, Uganda Tourism Board, Private Sector Foundation Uganda, and private sector champions like Diana Kyaremera of Age Safaris Uganda, for their dedication to promoting Uganda as a must-visit destination.

President Museveni also emphasized that Uganda’s tourism success must go hand in hand with responsible stewardship. He urged all stakeholders to prioritize conservation, sustainable tourism practices, and the preservation of cultural heritage. “We must give special attention to our cultural legacy — this is a unique treasure we must never allow to fade away,” he asserted.

The President further announced plans for international airports in Kidepo & Kanungu to enhance accessibility.

In his remarks, Hon. Tom R. Butime, the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities noted that the launch of Hidden Uganda strategically aligns with the Ministry's goal of positioning Uganda as a preferred destination by promoting inbound tourism.

He said, ''As the Government, we recognize that Uganda is more than a destination, it’s an experience. The Hidden Uganda documentary presents the countless adventures waiting to be had: This is an invitation to travellers worldwide to immerse themselves in the true essence of Uganda.''.

''Through Hidden Uganda, we invite the world to experience a side of Uganda that has remained hidden for too long. This documentary is a testament to the potential within our borders a nation brimming with untapped opportunities and adventures waiting to be discovered. As we continue to invest in showcasing Uganda’s tourism offerings, this documentary is an essential part of our broader strategy to position Uganda as a premier global destination for adventure and cultural tourism,'' he concluded.

Greenberg’s documentary, set to reach 130M viewers, will promote Uganda worldwide.
