UGANDA TO CELEBRATE WORLD WILDLIFE DAY 2018

Uganda joins the rest of the world to celebrate World Wildlife Day on 3rd March 2018. The celebration will involve a number of activities ranging from a public lecture, school quiz, exhibition and marathon in the entire week from 25th February 2018 to 3rd March 2018. The week will climax into the main celebrations on 3rd march 2018 at Uganda Wildlife Research and Training Institute campus in Katwe-Kabatooro Town Council located in Kasese District. The town is an enclave of Queen Elizabeth National Park and is also a Wildlife Sanctuary.

The annual event under the national theme “Creating a safe environment for the survival of Uganda’s big cats” rhyming with the global theme “Big cats: Predators under threat” will be presided over by the president of Uganda H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

At the celebrations, eminent personalities and organizations which have made significant contributions to Uganda’s Wildlife conservation will be awarded for their efforts.

Uganda is proud to join the world to celebrate the day which is aimed at raising awareness to protect the world’s endangered wildlife species especially the big cats such as Leopards (Panthera pardus), Lions (Panthera leo) and Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus), all found within the country.

Uganda is rich in biological diversity with significant numbers of fauna and flora that are the bedrock for the country’s growing tourism industry.
