Wildlife subsector achievements FY 2014/2015

  1. The Uganda Wildlife Bill 2015 was submitted to Cabinet
  2. The Uganda Wildlife Research and Training Institute Bill was enacted by Parliament.
  3. The Uganda Wildlife Education Center Bill was enacted by Parliament.
  4. 30 Wildlife Clubs of Uganda were revived in all the 5 regions of Uganda with Ministry support
  5. Uganda celebrated World Wildlife Day on 3rd March  2015
  6. Successfully hosted the 10th UNEP-AEWA Standing Committee meeting in Kampala
  7. 791 kg of raw ivory and 2029 kg of pangolin scales were impounded at Entebbe International Airport
  8. Routine inspections of Wildlife Protected Areas and wildlife private sector enterprises were undertaken
  9. The National Action Plan for the Crested Crane (Grey Crowned Crane) has been formulated.
  10. Uganda was represented at the 65th CITES Standing Committee
  11. Uganda was effectively represented at CMS CoP11 in Quito, Ecuador where Uganda was COP Vice Chair and Uganda was elected again on the Standing Committee.
  12. Participated in the Regional Summit to Stop Wildlife Crime and Advance Conservation in Arusha, Tanzania that culminated into formulation of the Arusha Declaration on Regional Conservation and Combating Wildlife/Environmental Crime
  13. Undertook extensive consultations and assessments aimed at generating data for nominating Mt. Elgon ecosystem as a Transboundary Biosphere Reserve under the UNESCO categorization of protected areas.
  14. Participated in the EAC Experts meetings on the development of a Regional Strategy to combat Poaching and Illegal wildlife trade.
  15. Participated in a regional training workshop on Prevention of Wildlife Trafficking held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Economic Valuation of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services held in Kigali, Rwanda.
